Artisan & AIGA Chicago Support City’s Vibrant Design Community
6/10/2011 1:38 PM By Julia ShiplettAs proud sponsors of AIGA Chicago’s Design Week, Artisan had a wonderful time mixing and mingling with Chicago’s design community during last night’s Annual Members Meeting at Park West. With hundreds of talented creatives and industry leaders in attendance, the evening was an overall celebration of design and collaboration within the city. Below are photos and highlights!

Keynote speaker Liz Danzico, a top design consultant, educator and co-founder of the MFA in Interaction Design Program at the School of Visual Arts, explains the fascinating way communication has evolved over the past centuries. Whether it’s writing in the margins of books or commenting on a friend’s Facebook status, people have always felt the need to express themselves and share it with others. Learn more about Liz’s work at bobulate.com.

Our talent Ezekiel Binion was the lucky recipient of Creative Suite 5.5.

Former AIGA President Marcia Lausen is celebrated for her long-time achievements within the design community, including leading the election design initiative of AIGA Design for Democracy. Learn more about Marcia’s work at Studio/lab.

Our Talent Gives Back to Local Non-Profit Working Bikes
5/18/2011 8:03 PM By Julia Shiplett
We at Artisan feel very fortunate to do what we love with passionate people every day. That’s why we value opportunities to give back to organizations that improve the world we live in and proudly represent talent that share this sentiment.
As the brainchild of Designer Atom Groom, Our Digital Gift has evolved into an annual collaborative donation that grants a worthy not-for-profit organization in Chicago or Northwest Indiana with professional design and development services. Although often the most deserving of marketing efforts to raise awareness and leverage opportunities, non-profit organizations usually do not have the means for investment. However, we are pleased to announce this year’s grant recipient is Working Bikes, a cooperative that restores used and discarded bicycles to be sold and donated locally in order to raise money for international distribution.
Our very own Talent Representative Suzanne Shannon has actively volunteered with Working Bikes for a number of years now to help provide transportation to people from Guatemala all the way to Ghana. Atom and his team were inspired by the organization’s humble resources and big commitment – out of a small storefront on Western Avenue, Working Bikes makes a global impact by shipping bikes to second and third-world countries so others can become independently mobile. This can make the difference between having a job and providing food and clean water for your family.
As a tribute to their hard work, Our Digital Gift will be providing professional identity package such as a new logo, business cards and letterhead in addition to a new website with valuable content management tools installed. Written content and a social media presence will also empower Working Bikes by leveraging a stronger platform for communication and participation.
As Atom put it, if his team can offer Working Bikes more recognition to continue their work, then the organization can provide even more bicycles in more countries. “If that doesn’t make your neck tingle and your heart glow, I don’t know what would.… Just knowing in our hearts and minds that we are making a difference through our talents in this world is amazing.”

Tweets Lead to Treats for Those in Need
12/1/2010 2:23 PM By Sharon PotschArtisan loves to give back…and we’re continuing our efforts this holiday season by accepting toy and gift donations to underprivileged children who find refuge within the walls of Aunt Martha’s. Aunt Martha’s is a health and human services provider and a beacon of light and hope for countless children, families, and communities across Chicago.
With over 25 locations across the Chicago area, Aunt Martha’s provides housing and shelter, access to doctors, and juvenile justice services to over 80,000 individuals and families on a yearly basis. We are honored to be collecting toys for these deserving children. If you’re interested in dropping off a toy donation, you can bring a new, unwrapped toy to our Chicago office at 216 South Jefferson, Suite 202.
A special thank you to Artisan’s Veronica Ludwig who found this unique donation opportunity through Twitter connections and conversation. Social media plays fantastic roles in keeping us connected and also helps those in need. We are grateful for the opportunity to assist people and we hope to make these children’s holidays a bit brighter this year. You can track the progress of our gift drive on Artisan’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

2009 MTGB: The Results
12/15/2009 3:15 PM By Sharon Potsch50 beautiful, creatively decorated and wrapped gift boxes held much needed food, goods, and even niceties like candles and lotion to comprise the 1,000 total gift boxes donated each year. These boxes deliver not only necessities of life but good tidings to those less fortunate. That was 50 tangible results. But the camaraderie, the connections of our hands united in good doings-those results are what sustains a community even when times are difficult.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation extends to every single guest and contributor of Artisan’s 2009 MTGB. We are so fortunate to have assembled the best of Chicago’s creative community. Our reputation of representing the best creative talent in Chicago is a direct reflection of you and the relationships you help us build. We all sincerely enjoyed this year’s MTGB and know that the other 50 people directly impacted across many different communities are happy because of your efforts, too. Thank you for making the evening such a huge success.
2009 MTGB: The Details
12/15/2009 1:51 PM By Sharon PotschArtisan talent representative Suzanne Shannon graciously opened her dramatic south loop loft space to accommodate our guest list. Suzanne masterfully handled all location and party arrangements to make this event a success. She coordinated delivery of enough canned goods through the folks at Pilsen’s La Casa Del Pueblo to fill 50 boxes; arranged space for the packing and box decorating activities; coordinated the menu, food, and drink preparation for our guests; divided her loft space into conversational, mingling, and work stations; and coordinated the delivery of the 50 packed boxes via a U-Haul van to Mercy Hospital. The boxes were delivered to the individuals on Saturday morning, December 12 via volunteers associated with Mercy Hospital’s Christmas Basket Program. Chef Nikki Stenger and her team of sous chefs prepared delicious appetizers including deviled eggs with smoked sea salt and white truffle oil; roasted barbeque pulled-pork sandwiches on home-made buttermilk biscuits; grilled southern style cornbread with sage butter; and mini grilled cheeses with roasted roma tomato, onion, garlic and sriracha bisque. For dessert, Nikki and her team created mini lemon squares, espresso brownies, and fresh pecan pies. We drank cider and Tequila-spiked hot cocoa—what a fun evening!
Artisan’s 2009 Match that Gives Back Party
12/15/2009 10:31 AM By Sharon PotschIt’s what we do best whether at work or play: Match Talent with Success. Our 2009 holiday party was no exception. 2008’s holiday party, “The Match that Gives Back” donated $20,000 in design resources to a deserving charity. How could we top that this year? We partnered up with our creative talent and clients to decorate and fill 50 boxes to bring holiday cheer along with everyday necessities to homebound patients of Mercy Hospital’s Christmas Basket Program.
Talent who’ve worked with Artisan over the past year along with selected clients and guests teamed up to pack food and gift items while mixing and mingling with peers in an incredible south loop loft provided by Artisan talent representative Suzanne Shannon. The boxes contained much-needed food and canned goods along with gift contributions from our talent and the commerce community of Chicago. Our heartfelt thanks extend to Edison Giles, a freelance art director who has worked with Artisan throughout the years, for partnering Artisan with Michele S. Levitt & Associates. Her unique boutique contributed over $300 in merchandise including beautiful soaps, candles, and lotions. These beautiful gifts certainly will help lift the recipients’ spirits; most who live alone and can find Christmas to be a very lonely time.
Many other freelancers and clients went out of their way to drop off gifts for the baskets to our office the morning of the party. The holiday spirit is certainly alive and well despite the economy. The graciousness and kindness we witnessed both during the planning stages of the party and during the event itself were truly heartwarming!
Join us for a free evening of films
12/15/2009 8:33 AM By Bejan Douraghy
Artisan is a proud sponsor of a series of short films written and produced by Mohammad Majdzadeh, an award-winning Iranian Independent Filmmaker. The free screening of these films takes place on Friday, December 18th from 7 – 9:30 pm at the Columbus Auditorium on 280 South Columbus Drive, Chicago IL 60603. We cordially invite you to partake in what will surely be a thought-provoking evening.
Mohammad's films examine the mostly hidden lives of Iranian women, teetering on the fringes of Iranian society in modern Tehran. He portrays the conflicts and contradictions of a society moving towards modernity despite intertwining forces of tradition, social taboos & stigmas, and a shaky economy.
The director will join the screening for a follow-up discussion and Q&A session. The event is free but provides a window into a culture and traditions that will surely leave a lasting impression on those who attend.
Mohammad will screen three of his films:
Born In What Century! (17 minutes) (Nominated and selected for Best Director at the Sapporo Film Festival, 2005; Selected in the Short Film Corner Section of the Cannes Film Festival, 2006)
World War IV (26 minutes) (Awarded Best Independent Filmmaker at the Golden Lion Film Festival, 2006)
The Lady's Name Is MOM, Too! (32 minutes) (Nominated for Best Film at the Golden Minbar Film Festival, 2007)
We hope to see you all there!
Artisan Collateral: Award Winning
10/6/2009 10:30 PM By Sharon Potsch
Artisan is proud to announce that our recent re-branding initiatives and print collateral have earned national recognition!
Artisan’s newly branded identity and collateral placed in the top 15% of over 8,000 entries received in the 2009 American Graphic Design Awards sponsored by GD USA. Creative staffing agencies need collateral that speaks to the talent we represent as well as the clients we serve. Our challenge was many: be fresh but conservative; timeless yet cutting edge. There was a single designer who immediately fit our charge: David Weik. David is a Chicago native and now principal of his own design studio, Vik, based in Madison, Wisconsin. David’s award-winning branding and design expertise gifted Artisan with not only beautiful collateral, but award-winning pieces.
A wider sampling of David’s work may be viewed in Artisan’s portfolio section. We are honored to represent talent of David’s caliber and proudly represent him as part of our A-list talent roster.
