As an employer, you’ve got to think long and hard about what to look for when hiring User Experience Designers and Developers. The last thing you want to do is leave it up to the User Experience Developers themselves to decide whether or not they’re qualified for the job. Why? Because invariably, you’re going to get everyone telling you that they are. The trouble is, few people are truly qualified to be customer-centric Experience Designers and it’s not a position that lends itself well to on-the-job training. When you conduct your search, it’s critical to look for individuals with both education and experience—but if you’ve got to choose between one or the other, always err in favor of experience. The fact is that someone fresh off campus won’t be as qualified to spearhead a campaign as someone who’s done it time and time again.
